Donner Andrea
Andrea Donner is a Swiss artist whose work explores the subtle relationships between perception, emotion, consciousness, and human connection. Her abstract paintings and spatial works emerge from an ongoing engagement with the question of how inner experience can be made visible—and how art can create spaces in which perception slows down, shifts, and opens up.
Working with pigments, acrylic, ink, charcoal, wax, lime, ash, and precious metals, Donner develops her works through layers, traces, and deliberate reduction. The materials she uses often carry histories of their own: linen, natural substances, and beeswax from her own apiary introduce ideas of origin, transformation, and continuity into the work. Rather than illustrating a concept, she allows meaning to emerge through material, rhythm, tension, and silence.
At the heart of her artistic practice are questions of resonance and coherence: What shapes our perception? What do we inherit—emotionally, culturally, and through our relationships? When can inherited patterns become conscious choices? And how can art make such transitions perceptible without prescribing an answer?
These questions unfold across different bodies of work, including Silent Inheritance, developed within her ongoing project Art as Legacy, as well as works that explore coherence, energetic structures, and the relationship between individual experience and larger interconnected systems.
Donner understands art not merely as an object of contemplation, but as a space of encounter. Her works invite viewers to linger, to perceive more closely and more slowly, and to enter a space in which material presence and inner experience resonate with one another.
